A front entry to a home can be a journey of discovery. This heritage home in New Westminster deserved such a design treatment. The straight and narrow old concrete walk was transformed into a meandering mica slate walk, creating a pleasing effect for the user. On this meandering short journey to the front door bold curving planting beds open up new views of lawn and plantings. A magnificent Cutleaf Red Maple is now a focal point in the front garden, complete with the subtle use of night lighting. A courtyard was designed at the front door to bring more emphasis to one’s arrival. This courtyard is constructed with tumbled granite stone pillars and walls, and an overhead rustic cedar arbour.
